HOW TO ORDER REPEAT MEDICATION

IN THE SURGERY

You can order your repeat medication by using the repeat slip issued with your prescription. Tick clearly THE ITEMS THAT YOU REQUIRE and then pop the request slip into the letterbox in the wall at the side of the reception desk.  If you have lost your slip please ask the receptionist to help you as we only accept prescription requests in writing.

  • We require 48 hours notice to process a repeat prescription for a number of reasons. T o give time for checks to be made, your repeat therapy screens  updated,  reviews to be recorded onto your records, letters sent for reviews,  blood  tests arranged where necessary  and for the GP to sign the prescription.  Additionally whilst the prescription clerks are processing the repeats they may be called away to speak to a patient or a chemist or take telephone calls from hospitals regarding patient medication.  We can process up to 100 repeat prescriptions a day, many of which have several items.

  • If you do not give 48 hours notice it creates difficulties for yourself, our staff and the GPs, so please ensure that you don't run out of your medication!!

  • The GPs sign the prescriptions once a day after their morning surgery.
  •  Sometimes there may be a minor problem with the prescription which causes a delay. We may need to contact you  so if you put a contact phone number onto your request that will help us a great deal. If we cannot contact you, there may be a delay when you come to collect your prescription.
  • We are happy to post your prescription.  Simply supply a SAE with your request.

  • If you prefer a chemist to collect the prescription for you, all you need to do is telephone your usual chemist and inform them that you have ordered your prescription and ask them to collect it on your behalf. You may need to order a little earlier to give the chemist time to collect, prepare and deliver your prescription.
  • To improve our efficiency and safety, we regret we are unable to take requests for medication over the telephone.
  • However, if you have a problem and you need to discuss this with a prescription clerk please telephone between 9am and 12 noon 024 76332628 and select option 2 or direct dial 02476 339853.
  • We regularly review our patients who are on repeat medication.  This can be done routinely when you visit the surgery for any other reason.  Alternatively if our system shows that you have not been reviewed for 6 months,  a request will be attached to your prescription prompting you to make an appointment for a prescription review.  The prescription clerks cannot issue prescriptions if a review has not been carried out so please make your appointments when requested. Let us know if you have difficulties so that we can help as not having regular reviews will delay your repeat prescriptions.
  • We pride ourselves on the safety and efficiency of the repeat prescription service. Please let us know if you think there are ways we can improve and we will be happy to discuss your ideas.
  • In line with Coventry CCG Pharmaceutical guidelines, we regret we are unable to fax prescriptions for repeat medication.
